CLEP Tests were introduced by The College Board in 1967 as a way for undergraduate college students to earn college credit for subject matter they already knew. Approximately 2,900 colleges and universities grant college credits for successful passing of CLEP exams. Most of the tests are 90 minutes long and currently cost $60 each. For military service personnel, the CLEP is free to take. Each test counts toward one or two semester(s) of course work.

Why Take CLEP Tests? – By taking one or more CLEP exams you will …
- Save time. Earn college credit for what you already know. Gain the acknowledgment and the respect for what you’ve learned through independent study, advanced high school courses, noncredit adult courses, or professional development.
- Save money. Compare the cost of a single CLEP exam, just $60 to that of tuition in a 2 or 4 year college, and you will save hundreds, even thousands of dollars for each CLEP exam you pass.
- Make college more interesting. Move beyond the subject matter that you already know and into more challenging and interesting topics.
- Graduate Early. CLEP exams can help you finish your degree early or to complete a class or two that you’ve been putting off taking.
- Satisfy a proficiency requirement. Demonstrate you’ve already mastered the content of, for example, a basic math or language course. CLEP exams are a great for dual-degree candidates or students just a few credits shy of graduation.
